What is the Queensland Museum Repatriation Fund?

The Queensland Museum Repatriation Fund provides funding to help communities repatriate the remains of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islander people ancestral remains, burial goods and secret and/or sacred objects that were collected by Queensland Museum and other institutions, to their community of origin. The fund is part of the Queensland Museum Repatriation Program.

Return of ancestral remains (repatriation)

The Queensland Government recognises the importance of the return of Ancestral Remains, Burial Goods and Secret and/or Sacred Objects for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In particular, the state government is committed to supporting Aboriginal peoples’ and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ need to fulfil cultural and spiritual obligations to care for and bury their dead. This support is being delivered through the Queensland Museum Repatriation Fund.
