My name is Sammy-Jo Kupfer. I am a Kalkadoon woman who grew up in Mount Isa and later moved to Townsville.
I am a proud mother of a beautiful young daughter and come from a family who works hard to make a living. I want much more for her so I chose to study nursing at university. My daughter is my motivation. I am the first in my family to undertake further study.
I entered university through the Indigenous Health Careers Access Program, which allowed me to complete my first year of nursing over two years. Nursing is definitely what I want to do now but I am considering midwifery too.
My studies have given me the chance to become a student ambassador, visiting high schools and talking to students about university studies and life on campus.
I want to get out there and let others know they can do it too.
I'm looking forward to what the future holds.
DESCRIPTION: My deadly story begins with education
