Danny Anau, PASS Australia

At the age of 18 Danny Anau is making a difference for other young Indigenous people in the Townsville community, by helping them reach their potential in education and training.

After growing up on the Torres Strait Island of Boigu, Danny moved to Cairns to complete high school before getting full-time employment with PASS Australia as a senior coach.

PASS Australia is currently helping 'Close the Gap' by delivering for the past 10 years the largest Indigenous Employment Program in the school based apprenticeship arena for Yr 10-12 students in Australia.

Danny says his biggest challenge to date has been finishing his education and getting a full-time job without his supportive family close by.

"I didn't really have family around. My Mum and Dad don't live together so earlier on in life I moved around a lot and didn't really stay at one school," he said.

"Now I want to bring something back to my community because there aren't many opportunities for sport.

"I want to keep gaining the skills and knowledge in what I'm doing now then try and find different ways to use the skills I have gained.

"I'm very proud of how far I've come and know that now I am making a difference for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders."
