Chern'ee Sutton

My name is Chern'ee Sutton.

My family links to the Kalkadoon people from Mount Isa.

I am a 16 year old contemporary Indigenous artist and am honoured to have two of my major works on display at Queensland Parliament House in Brisbane.

I started painting at the age of 13 years when I entered my first art competition. I won the open category and have been painting ever since.

Since this time, I have donated several of my paintings to charities including, The Flood Appeal, Biggest Morning Tea and Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

I am a proud Kalkadoon woman and sadly a lot of the stories from the Kalkadoon people have been lost. Through my art, I hope to bring back some of those stories and share them with others.

I would like to think that my art reflects a unified Australia that is moving forward.
