Sorita McGrane

On my mother's side I have ties to Malay/Indonesian ancestry and her language is of the Boigu people: Kalwal Kawa Ya. On my father's side, my ancestry is white Australian with Scottish, Irish and Jewish ancestry.

I have lived in Toowoomba for most of my life, now with my husband and two children - a wonderful boy aged 12 and a princess who is 9. They keep me very happy and busy! I also have an 19 year old stepson who now towers over me.

I am currently working on my personal business, BudgetBis, a money management website and recently commenced my Masters in Business.

I work as the Indigenous Business Manager at the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE. I like working with other people who are passionate about seeing our people progress. Our communities have come a long way yet there is still work to be done. Seeing Indigenous people participate in quality training is very rewarding. We know that we are providing a pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to potentially have a fulfilling life. I love seeing people empowered to make better choices and lead the way for others. It can be a very pleasing process to be a part of.

I am very motivated to provide for my family and want my children to experience frequent travel experiences in Australia and overseas. And although I will support them in whatever they choose to pursue, it is important that as parents, we provide them with the best opportunities available. My children motivate me to be the best that I can be. I must model this to them, I am their most important teacher.
