Mercedes Turnbull

Mercedes Turnbull was born in Chinchilla and is a descendant of the Mandandanji people.

Mercedes has recently been employed by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as a Trainee through the Queensland Government Project 2800 initiative. The traineeship will allow her to gain a Certificate III in Business Administration. This is the first step in Mercedes moving forward in her life since having her children. Having difficulties with her youngest baby, Mercedes had to overcome those challenges. She is now happy that she has the job she has always wanted and feels she is now a successful mother.

Mercedes finds inspiration from her father.

"If he could do it so can I, although he started late in life he still got there."

Her goal in the future would be to help raise enough money to build a church in Uganda and other small countries.

Being a proud Aboriginal woman Mercedes says no matter what colour you are you can do it. She believes as an Aboriginal the history behind our elders and the challenges they faced, makes us the strong people we are today.

"My motto is don't ever think that you can't do something, because when you put your mind to it you can."
