Billie-Jean Taylor

Billie-Jean Taylor's mother is from Mithika - Angela Turnbull, and her father is from Kamilaroi - Neil Taylor. Although Billie-Jean doesn't reside on country, she still enjoys going out to visit her mob.

"I believe it is good to go back to your home roots because as soon as you get there you know you're home"

Billie-Jean has recently been employed as a trainee with the newly formed Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships under Project 2800. The traineeship will allow her to gain a Certificate III in Business Administration.

Billie-Jean really enjoys the idea of being a part of something that is helping her people.

"I love being apart of the team, and cannot wait to get out there and show everyone my capabilities".

Her colleagues make sure she doesn't feel out of place, and help her with whatever she needs.

"I plan on making a positive impact in the areas that I am working in. I love my culture and I am a very proud Aboriginal woman and I hope to show all the Murris out there that they can make it no matter what. The help is there for whatever you need and want. "

"As a young mother people think they can't make it, but I'm looking at it in the long run for my daughter as she will respect me and what I've had to sacrifice just to succeed for myself and for her as I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for her."
