Rick Garcia

Much of Rick Garcia's life has been dedicated to guiding young Indigenous people towards happy and successful lives.

A former Community Education Counsellor with Education Queensland, Rick is currently working with Queensland Youth Services as a Youth Support Coordinator.

"I think that I have made a difference in the community by helping young people to make good choices," he said.

"I'm inspired by helping young people to empower themselves and be accepted in the community.

"My goal and ambition for the future is that all Indigenous youth are treated fairly and proud."

Apart from his work with young people in the community, Rick is also immensely proud of his family and culture, naming his loving family as his greatest achievement.

"My children inspire me to make good choices in their life," he said.

"My mother was Aboriginal and my father was Torres Strait Islander and I'm proud of my Indigenous descent.

"We are the proud owners of this land and I will always respect my elders."
