Jeffrey Lawton

My name is Jeffrey Lawton. I'm a Bidjara and Ghangulu man, and I currently live in Mackay.

The health and wellbeing of young Indigenous people is my passion. They are our future. I want them to grow into strong, deadly adults. That's why I got involved in giving boxing lessons to local young people.

I took the long road here. I've worked for Queensland Rail and the Mackay Aboriginal and Islander Justice Alternatives Group, been named Amateur Boxer of the Year, and held the esteemed position of husband to a loving wife and father of four beautiful children.

I draw inspiration from my family, especially Mum and Dad. My parents always stressed the importance of keeping my connections with culture, country and language.

I want to help young people who don't have the same support that I had growing up, and I hope I can make a difference in their lives, as well as in the community.
