Clinton Conway

My name is Clinton Conway and I am an Aboriginal man with connections to Kalkadoon and Girringun on his father’s side and Kuku Yalanji, Karowa and Kalali on his mother’s side was born in Townsville.

Born in Townsville and raised on Palm Island. I am the son of a well-respected Kalkadoon and Girringun man, Clint Burns who is a hard working Carpenter that has taught me strong work ethics.

My parents saw the value of ensuring that my siblings and I received a good education. I started my primary school life at Bwgcolman Community School on Palm Island but relocated to Townsville to attend Heatley State School and Kirwan State High. I later became the Indigenous Captain at Kirwan State High School and graduated in 2011.

After completing school, I found it important to find a job. With support from my mother and my high school Community Education Counsellor, Julie Thaiday I was accepted in to Myuma Pty Ltd’s Dugaluriji. I lived in Camooweal for 6 months and completed my Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.

And in 2013 I won the CFMEU Apprentice of the Year, which is the highest award recognition available to apprentices and trainees.
