Lloyd Hornsby

Lloyd is a Koori from Yuin country, Walaga Lakes which is situated on the border of NSW and Victoria. His spiritual name is Gawura which means whale. He is a motivated Aboriginal man who's committed to promote his culture; this is done through the wonderful art Lloyd produces.

One of Lloyd's first challenges in life was from a very young age; he was abandoned by his parents until the time they passed, even though they lived under the same roof, there was no connection.

Lloyd loved school and grasped the opportunity to learn and to make friends, his passion for learning didn't end there and he went on to achieve his Batchelor of Indigenous and contemporary art.

Before becoming a fulltime artist Lloyd had a successful landscaping, maintenance business that employed 8 aboriginal staff; his business assisted him to fund his university studies. Today Lloyd gets great satisfaction from his interaction with the inmates in prison he visits regularly. He enjoys the opportunity to develop the relationships with all inmates, and for inmates to have someone they feel comfortable to talk to; that is why he goes there. At this time he's assisting inmates on probation / parole with an art group in Caboolture called "Outside in art."

When asked what inspires him, he replied the "the blood that runs through my veins" Lloyd's contributions to the schools in the Moreton Bay region are invaluable, Lloyd believes there is a shift in perceptions, the teachers are realising the potential of their Aboriginal students. He encourages the kids to get a good education and to identify, he believes we all need to know our origins if possible and that starts from an early age; ask questions?

Lloyd is a positive person who likes to share, share his knowledge, and share his experiences. Lloyd has had countless exhibitions and is a giving man who offers much to the community in which he works and lives. He embraces old-style ethics in our present times.
