Christine Connor

My name is Christine Connor. My parents were raised on Thursday Island and were involved in diverse maritimebased industries.

After their retirement I invested in my father's share of the company.

In 1986, I left Sydney and returned to the Torres Strait to take up in my family's maritime tradition. I wanted to make a difference to my community who rely on travelling by sea.

The first vessel I have been involved in from concept to design is the MV Torres Magic. It is perfect for local conditions and during the design we considered the needs and expectations of the community and visitors. We are thrilled with the final product.

I love being a hands-on-operator and guiding visitors on bus tours, or when they come to the jetty shop.

I am proud that my country, the Torres Strait, takes its place alongside other pockets of paradise around the world.

DESCRIPTION: My deadly story in anchored firmly in the Torres Strait.
