Ashleigh Singleton

At the age of 25, Ashleigh Singleton has achieved more sporting goals than what most adults twice her age have.

Born and raised in Cairns, Ashleigh has been selected and played for a number of football codes including women's AFL, women's Rugby League (NRL) and women's Rugby Union.

Last year she played in the 2011 Queensland Murri Carnival.

From this she was selected into the 2012 Women's Indigenous All Stars team, which played as a curtain raiser to the NRL All Stars match on 4 February against the Australian Women's All Stars. This ended up in a draw, 10 -10.

She was also selected for the Queensland Women's AFL team in 2011.

"I hope to be selected again next year as Cairns will play host for the Women's AFL National Championships.

"I would love to be playing in front of my own family and mob." Ashleigh said.

More recently Ashleigh has started playing Women's Union 7s, which is the shorter version of the full 15 a side.

"I've played for the Murri Magic, who has appeared in the last three grand finals against Redfern in the Coffs Harbour Ella Sevens Tournament."

"Murri Magic is known for their ability to bring in new players and promote Indigenous women's rugby union throughout Queensland.

"It's grown so much that they had to form another team called 'One Mob'. Ashleigh said.

Her family has been the big influence for her sporting interest with the NRL encouraged on her mother's side and AFL on her father's.

"I tend to look up to my cousin Steven Singleton, one of the best halfbacks in Qld and my father is from South Australia and this is where my AFL Influence comes from.

"My cousins are Michael O'Loughlin, now retired, and Adam Goodes who both played with the Sydney Swans," Ashleigh adds.
