Christy Anderson

My name is Christy Anderson. I was born in Blackwater, raised in Brisbane. I am of Aboriginal (Gangalidda) and Torres Strait Islander decent. My Grandmother was born on Horn Island and raised on Thursday Island.

I grew up in a family where there were only a handful of family members who graduated high school and went onto university. I was lucky enough to be one of those family members who graduated high school, I never went to university, but once I graduated from high school I took up a traineeship with Brisbane City Council and completed my certificate III in Business Administration. I then went onto working for Queensland government, where I took up a diploma through my work, Diploma of Government and then graduated after 12 months of study.

This has made, not only my family proud but me proud of the achievements I have accomplished in my life and I hope I am a role model to the younger generation, not only in my family but everyone around me.

I am a proud black woman and have always been about helping fellow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. I have surrounded myself in the Indigenous areas of my work in government. I love being able to make a difference not only in my family but for every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family I meet.
