Each year, NAIDOC Week celebrations highlight the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the First Australians. NAIDOC Week celebrations and community events are a great opportunity for all Queenslanders to come together and acknowledge the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

NAIDOC Week 2019

This year NAIDOC Week celebrations are held from Sunday 7 July to Sunday 14 July 2019.

For generations, Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples have sought recognition of their unique place in Australian history and society today and to be the architects of their lives and futures. This year's NAIDOC Week theme ‘Voice, Treaty, Truth – Let’s work together for a shared future’ reflect three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Voice. Treaty. Truth. 1800 595 522

We want to hear from you. Throughout NAIDOC week 2019, we have our ’listening line’.

We want to hear your thoughts and opinions about this year’s theme of Voice. Treaty. Truth.

What does Treaty mean to you? What is an example of Truth? How do you want your Voice to be heard?

You can call 1800 595 522 from anywhere in Queensland, and create a 30 second recording of your feelings and opinion about this year’s NAIDOC Week theme.

At the end of the week, these voice recordings will form a collection that will be shared through social media, our websites and on MobTube, to showcase the diverse understandings and knowledge about Voice. Treaty. Truth.

The 1800 number will be operational from the 7 July 2019. Spread the word.

Lighting up Queensland

Keep an eye out for bridges and buildings near you being lit up in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag colours during NAIDOC Week. DATSIP has worked in partnership with Brisbane, Toowoomba, Mackay, Cairns and Torres Strait councils to proudly display red and yellow, and blue and green colours on key landmarks in celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. If you can, grab a photo, share it, and tag our @deadlystories Facebook page so we can let the whole state know.
